Good taste and smell carried Wbéimar Lasso tuned Bolaños, a small farmer in Nariño, to be crowned as the first national champion coffee tasters, above 46 tasters and experts from around the country.
Lasso Bolaños, who received the distinction in Ibague two weeks ago, acknowledges that Narino are not classified as good tasting but says he is the exception for the knowledge he has of grain.
"A normal person would do such tests, but perhaps not find any difference in cafes, then, the difficulty level is pretty high," the Narino.
To be a coffee connoisseur, as Lasso Bolaños, is needed, above all, a good preparation.
"I am also a producer but has served me much training. I am finishing my studies and all the academic support that I have earned me a lot in my performance as a taster, "he says.
He's 28 and studying at the Faculty of Engineering, University of agro Nariño. Who started in the aroma of coffee was his own father, Marcus Aurelius Lasso, a farmer in the village of Buenos Aires, municipality of San Pedro de Cartago.
"The theme of the tasting coffee in our department is relatively new, small farmers have a laboratory only three years ago and that has opened many doors in terms of market and training," says Lasso Bolaños.

The National Championship Taster already winner


Lasso Wbeimar Bolaños was crowned last weekend as the National Champion Cupping during the Second International Specialty Coffee Fair (ExpoEspeciales) 2009, held in the capital of Tolima.

Organizers said that with this championship seeks to exalt the great work of Colombian coffee tasters and give them equal status and credibility of wine tasters. Likewise, it seeks to stimulate interest in coffee tasting through a fun, fast, fair and friendly competition.
The winner is agroindustrial engineer, is 28 and hails from San Pedro de Carthage (Nariño), while his family is dedicated to coffee in that department. In the race he joined 41 other participants from around the country, including producers, tasters import and export companies, the National Federation of Coffee Growers, committees and cooperatives of grain growers.
